65809 Community Association Presents FOR YOUR INFORMATION January, 2000
Neighborhoods in action.
|
Postage Expenses have run higher than usual lately. In December, we sent out a special edition post card requesting help with a neighborhood zoning violation. In January, in a public relations move, we sent out 65 meeting reminders just to touch base with nearly everyone on our membership lists. We have sent a letter to Ms. Shannon York at WalMart in regard to the preserving the trees as discussed at the November meeting. We enclosed several appropriate photographs, as well. There has been no response at this time but we have started a new WalMart file. So who lives in your neighborhood? Want to find out? Check out the GIS page at thelibrary.springfield.missouri.org which lists basic property owner information from tax records. These are public records so dig in. We are happy to report a successful first step for our Chapel Hill neighborhood group. The proposed re-zoning for an office park development between Chapel Hill and Sunshine, just east of Forrest Heights, was denied by the Greene County Planning and Zoning Commission. The group is now preparing for another presentation at the February 7 County Commissioners Meeting where the final decision on the case will be made. Special thanks to Bernie Burrier who spoke for 65809 at the hearing. The Growth Management and Land Use Plan of Vision 20/20 will be presented to the public in coming months in preparation for city and county adoption. We got a sneak preview. The proposal moves planning away from the problems of land use mapping and towards broad land use policies to direct development. of the entire region. The preliminary document fosters cooperation among diverse government entities. |
Thanks to those of you who called Sam’s Club to complain about the illegally parked trailers during the holiday season. The Association sent a letter to the manager who promptly called the Coordinator to plead his case. A copy of our letter to the Bob Cumley, Assistant City Manager, and we will be notified when hearings are held on this issue. We believe code enforcement is a important part of maintaining our quality of life. Larry Daniel had a great idea! He acquired the domain name 65809 and changed the address of our web site accordingly. Look for us at 65809.org. We hope to develop this into a great way to let you know what’s going on in “09 World”. Thanks, Larry. We received a letter from City Planning and Zoning about a Proposed Lighting Standard. Engineer and 09 resident Jeff Wells took a look and recommends the proposal. We will notify the city of our support. The Springfield Urban Service Area Policy allows for continued growth by maximizing the use of existing resources while minimizing the cost to the citizens, especially in regard to sewer services and streets and highways. A map showing where 65809 fits into the current Urban Service Area is being developed. You wouldn’t believe the super newsletters we receive from other great organizations. Check them out at our meetings. THE WAY I SEE IT, citizen involvement is the single most critical factor in a democracy. Complaining just doesn’t change anything. You have to act. Yes, time is a problem. It is for everyone. But I believe our people and our neighborhoods can work together to achieve the best in growth and development for 65809. That’s my priority. Will it be yours? |
